TWINSERT
is a series of highly configurable interior expansion joints for bridging
wide joint gaps and/or for blending the joint system with adjacent flooring
materials.
Each
TWINSERT model is created by bridging any two of EMSEAL's standard interior
joint systems.
The
bridging element is usually made of custom-configured aluminum.
The
bridging element can become part of the finished, visible and trafficked
surface of the joint...
or,
...like a
"pan" joint, it can be recessed to support any floor material--tile, terrazzo,
stone, etc.--
being used elsewhere on the floor.
In contrast to
"pan" joints, however, the bridging element can be configured to handle heavy
loads that often lead to cracking of infill materials in lighter-duty systems
(see TWINSERT in action at Washington DC Convention Center).
Example 1 of 2: FS 110 TWINSERT
with Aluminum Traffc Plate

In
this example, twin FS 110/45, heavy-duty, aircraft-aluminum joints have
been connected with a 1/2" (12mm)
aluminum bridging plate.
The
width of the plate has been custom made to allow the bridging of an
8-inch wide expansion joint gap.
The
thickness of the plate was calculated to handle forklift and vehicle
loads required by the client--the Washington DC Convention Center (click
here for a project profile and to see the installed TWINSERT).
In
this particular application, the TWINSERT was installed into a recess
(blockout) on each side of the joint gap and installed proud of the
surrounding concrete by the thickness of the adjacent carpet. As a
result, the TWINSERT system sits flush with the finished walking and
traffic surface.

Example 2 of 2: FP 70/30 TWINSERT
with Recessed Plate for Tile

In
this example, twin FP 70/30, medium-duty, aluminum/elastomeric insert joints have
been connected with a 1/4" (6mm)
aluminum bridging plate that is recessed from the finished surface of
the joint to receive field-installed tile to match the floor.
The joint
gap in this application is only 3-inches but movement due to
uncontrolled airspace below the lobby floor results in movement in
excess of that which could be handled in numerous previous attempts
using other manufacturers standard floor products for 3-inch joints.
By using
twin FP 70's the movement capability is doubled. By spacing them
out so that tile can be installed between them allowed coordination with
black accent tiling patterns. |
Joint
Sizing:
Theoretically, TWINSERT can be configured to handle ANY joint size.
As long as a bridging material suitable to the loads expected can be
secured to the selected
standard joint system, this bridging material can be made to span
joints as large as 24-inches.
|
|
Movement Capability:
The movement capability of any TWINSERT configuration is equal to
2-times that of the
standard model from which it is configured.
|
Load Capacity:
TWINSERT can be configured to match the
loading capacity of the
standard EMSEAL interior joint system chosen as the flanking
systems. This allows configuration of TWINSERT for
Standard, Medium or Heavy duty
use including:
|
- Fork Lifts
- Trucks
- Scissor Lifts
- Gurneys
|
- Coin Carts
- Luggage Carts
- Hand Trucks
- Pedestrians
|
- Mobile Medical
Equipment
- Emergency Vehicles
- Vendor Carts
- Maintenance Equipment

Floor-to-Wall
Versions:
Floor-to-Wall versions of TWINSERT can be configured in accordance with
the floor-to-wall options available with the
standard joint system
selected as the flanking system--consult the product page for the
specific system.
|
|
|
Leg-Height
Options:
As with loading capacity and
floor-to-wall options, leg heights are driven from those available in
the standard joint system
selected as the flanking system.
This option
also allows for using DIFFERENT leg heights on either side of the
bridging element. You might choose this option if there is a floor
height differential across the joint.
